The right lighting, focus on contrasts in the home, and magnification using various tools or technologies. There are many tips and tricks available that can make life easier for the visually impaired. VELUX FONDEN’s mobile ocular experience centre – SynsExpo – gives you a first-hand idea of what is on offer when the centre goes touring around Denmark. In addition to experiencing first-hand the various tools that can be used to tackle the challenges that come with impaired vision, you can also have a chat with local sight consultants.
SynsExpo is initially touring Denmark, visiting Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg and Esbjerg during spring and summer 2022.
An experience spaceSynsExpo is equipped as an experience centre built up around a kitchen where the focus is on colour contrasts, a living room where magnification is in focus and a reading area where the focus is on lighting. In each room, there are information posters, and it is possible to try out aids for the visually impaired.
The project is supported by VELUX FONDEN as part of the foundation’s ‘Senior citizens with impaired vision’ initiative, which supports projects that focus on seniors with impaired vision and gives them the resources they need to live independent and active lives.
Good advice also onlineSynsExpo is closely linked to a new website, which is being launched in connection with the SynsExpo tour. The website is called Råd om Syn (Advice about vision), and has been developed in close collaboration with a broad partnership of eye specialists and other organisations involved with helping seniors to lead active and rewarding lives. The website www.raadomsyn.dk pools knowledge, advice and information about where seniors with visual impairment and their relatives can find help.
SynsExpo and the Råd om Syn website are backed by a partnership of various disciplines representing different areas of expertise about vision and the elderly. Among other things, the development has taken place in collaboration with Synscentralen in the Municipality of Vordingborg, CSU-Slagelse, IBOS, Øjenforeningen, Faglige Seniorer, Optikerforeningen, the Danish Centre for Social Science Research (VIVE) and the University of Copenhagen.
