Sensory loss and dental diseases diminish people’s quality of life and impact their ability to live active lives. There is a need to focus broadly on sensory loss, especially impaired vision and hearing, as these two often coincide. The aim is to support people age 50+ with sensory loss to maintain an active life, and is included in their local communities and society. This aim is supported by bringing together relevant stakeholders and creating knowledge on barriers to leading a meaningful life with sensory loss.
Due to impaired vision an increasing number of people aged 50+ experience loneliness, limited opportunities and reduced quality of life. However, a growing group of people aged 50+ with impaired vision is identified but less examined.
Individuals aged 50+ with impaired vision find it difficult to leave their homes and participate in activities and social interactions. Often, help arrives too late, as impaired vision usually creeps in and is only detected when the damage is done. VELUX FOUNDATION aims to focus on the challenges faced by these adults, strengthen their resources, and contribute to ensuring they receive the necessary assistance in time.
