Beyond belief: Rationality, Destigmatization, and Mental Disorder

In the diagnosis and explanation of many common mental disorders, it is assumed that they are primarily characterized by defects in epistemic rationality, which manifest as irrational beliefs. However, this attribution of irrationality reinforces mental health stigma and is out of step with recent philosophical and psychological research on rationality. The project will integrate philosophical analysis and empirical research to develop an integrative understanding of rationality and apply this approach to specific mental disorders. The project aims to contribute to academic research and reduce stigma, in line with CAS's research strategy and the Danish national focus on mental health.
