Improving the oral health in frail elderly persons

Project description
Studies of the oral health among senior citizens have shown that the most vulnerable elderly people have severe problems with dental care and oral hygiene, including infections and inflammatory conditions.
Problems with teeth and mouth not only cause pain but can also make it difficult to eat and cause malnutrition in a group of already vulnerable elderly people. In addition, some types of medical treatments can add to the poor oral health.
The aim of the project is to develop targeted initiatives that can improve dental and oral health among vulnerable elderly people. The initiatives are developed together with the users looking at what causes poor oral health in vulnerable elderly people and how it can best be improved.
The project is carried out together with Frederiksberg and Greve Municipalities. Co-applicant is Associate Professor Tenna Jensen, SAXO Institute, University of Copenhagen.
