The sources of pollution in the ocean are numerous, with pollutants deriving from land-based sources as well as oil, plastic and underwater noise. The consequences of pollution for the marine ecosystem and human health is in need of greater focus. Therefore the focus of the action area on combatting marine pollution is to obtain knowledge and information to prevent and reduce all kinds of pollution to a significant extent. The focus is on pressure factors that affect the marine ecosystem, including wastewater, nutrients, marine litter, oil pollution, plastic pollution and underwater noise.
