VELUX FOUNDATION supports the publication of books by adults aged 67+ in order to give space to voices, experiences and stories that often develop over a long adult life. Many people have built up knowledge, insight and perspectives that deserve to be shared — contributing both to literature and to the wider public conversation.
Through publication support, the Foundation aims to help authors realise a long‑held ambition to begin or further develop their writing. Funding is awarded in recognition of the contributions made by adults aged 67+ through communicating experience, professional knowledge or fiction in book form, whether physical or digital.
As a general rule, support is granted for up to three publications per author. The ambition is that, over time, an authorship can find its audience and become self-sustaining under ordinary market conditions.
If support is sought for podcasts or audiobooks, applications should instead be submitted under the Foundation’s activity support scheme.
Applications for publication support must address the Foundation’s criteria and meet a number of formal requirements for both the author and the publisher. All requirements are described in the downloadable PDF guidelines.

Funded activities must contribute to improving people’s lives and opportunities for action in a democratic and sustainable society. Publications must help strengthen agency among adults aged 60+ and support meaningful later lives.
The Foundation takes a broad view of eligible activities and supports a wide range of initiatives, including publications. In this way, funding reflects the interests and focus areas of active individuals.
Priorities may vary across regions and local communities. As a principle, what is meaningful to applicants is also considered relevant for support.
All applications are assessed individually and must demonstrate a degree of societal value.
Funding is awarded for clearly defined and necessary costs related to the publication.

Funding may cover production costs, travel expenses and other costs related to completing the publication (e.g. images, transcription, marketing).
Assessment of funding needs is only made once the manuscript is completed and a realistic budget can be established.
