‘Ud i det blå’ – a podcast about the sea and climate challenges

A new podcast series from VELUX FONDEN gives an in-depth insight into current climate challenges and the Danish seas.

From swimming and fishing to the exploits of the Vikings and industry, the sea plays a central role in Danish culture and as part of our natural world. Nevertheless, many people are not aware of the very negative impact of climate change on our blue environment. Overfishing, ghost nets and nitrogen emissions are just some of the factors that have turned seabeds once teeming with life into barren deserts.

In the first episode of Ud i det blå (Out into the Blue) we meet the biologist Kaare Manniche Ebert from ‘Kysthjælper’ – or ‘coast helper’ – a project which, equipped with volunteers and underwater plants, will restore nature beneath the surface at four selected locations in Denmark and gather knowledge for future efforts.

Underwater plants and volunteers

With the podcast series Ud i det blå, VELUX FONDEN dives beneath the waves. In four episodes, researchers and eager volunteers will talk about how – with the help of eelgrass, stone reefs and through joint efforts – the Danish marine environment can continue to support a rich flora and fauna and at the same time play an important role in our daily lives.
