The Danish marine environment is under constant pressure from human activities, and especially fishing, agriculture, discharge of nutrients and chemical pesticides, that undermines the ocean’s ability to provide the ecosystem services and resources that are essential for a healthy marine environment. With this action area, VELUX FOUNDATION wants to contribute to research and innovative marine practices that can help restore carbon-rich ecosystems, as well as important spawning areas, and create more resilient marine ecosystems.
The focus will be on degraded ecosystems, in particular areas with the greatest potential to absorb and store CO2 and prevent and reduce the effects of climate change. Supported projects must be innovative in order to develop methods to restore marine ecosystems. Existing and new projects will contribute with information and data to the Center for Marine Nature Restoration and the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
If you have a project idea that can contribute to a healthy marine environment capable of withstanding climate change, you are welcome to fill out our inquiry form and submit it to us by April 8, 2024.
Based on the inquiry form, relevant projects will be invited to submit a full application by the application deadline on May 1, 2024.
We do not support commercial projects or projects related to aquaculture or fishing.
