Technology and hands-on expertise

Children, Youth and Science in Denmark
We support projects with a focus on practical expertise and didactics, enabling children and young people to learn in ways that are application-oriented and in settings beyond the classroom.

Hands-on expertise and academic skills should go hand in hand. It is also about being inventive and creative and being able to translate methods and theories into tangible products.

We focus on supporting children and young people to be equipped for a digital world. However, students should also, in a broader sense, learn through physical manipulation, develop and create products, learn outside the classroom etc. Students should have the opportunity to work with materials, analogue and digital technologies and develop tangible products, preferably in collaboration with businesses and the local community etc.

Hands-on expertise is a form of learning that complements and works in harmony with more academic ways of learning – benefitting all students. Moreover, increased focus on hands-on expertise in primary schools can contribute to stimulating student interest in vocational education.

Good ideas are always welcome.

If you have an idea for a project within the grant area’s focus on technology and hands-on expertise, feel free to send us a brief description (max one A4 page). Include a working title, timeline, target audience, project idea, specific activities and an estimate of the budget and amount applied for.

Send the description to head of programme Ole Laursen (oll@villumfonden.dk). We will get back to you quickly with an initial assessment and advice.
